After 16 years of serving Sussex County, the husband and wife team of Doug and Kara Ritter have sold Millsboro-based Tidal Homes to Kyle Wilkins, owner of Wilkins Construction Services.

Doug said he cannot think of a better person to assume control of Tidal Homes.

“Kyle has been in the modular home business for over 20 years and is one of the hardest working individuals I know. I am very confident he will thrive in this environment,” said Doug.

Tidal and Wilkins have had a working relationship for the whole time, said Doug. The sale went through at the end of June.

Doug said when the business was started, the plan was to be more focused on providing custom home builds instead of a high volume of homes. However, he said, the business has grown steadily every year and exploded in the last few years.

Doug said he and Kyle had casually chatted about the change for a few years and now seemed like the right time to move this forward.

Doug said he will remain with Tidal Homes for the foreseeable future. Former and current customers should not see any change in the way business is handled, he said.

Wilkins said his current construction business involves all the stages of building with modular homes, from clearing a property of trees to the final touches of completion.

Kyle said Tidal Homes was one of the first builders he worked with after acquiring his business license at age 18. S oon after starting his business, he moved into doing interior work, framing and setting up modular homes on his own, he said.

“The day Doug mentioned selling Tidal Homes, I told him I was very interested in purchasing [the business],” said Kyle, adding he plans to put up a model home in the near future and will also keep the current business. “Doug has always been a great guy to work with. I have learned a lot from him.”
